Woah Prague! This is a great town. I can totally see why it has become such a hot tourist spot. The city is stunning and I do not throw words like that around lightly, you know, stunning. I had heard great things about Prague but I also knew that it has a reputation as a party town so I did not know what to expect. It has met all of my expectations and then some.
The buildings are beautiful, tall, imposing and for the most part well painted. The city center looks like it could be nearly any where in Europe but the city does not seem to move as fast as other cities in Europe proper. Oh and I have not even mentioned that there is a huge castle. I guess that it is one of the largest castle complexes in Europe. Pretty cool. If you want to read descriptions about Prague or learn more about the history I am sure that there are better blogs than mine for this.
Instead, I want to tell you a quick but telling story. This morning I decided that I would go on a walking tour of the city. It seemed like a great way to learn more about the city and the history of the country. It was.
But before the tour I decided that I needed to find some coffee and ideally something breakfast like. So I started wandering around the side streets of old town Prague. That is when I realized that there was a truck cleaning streets so I turned again. And thought boy it would be nice if I saw street cleaners like this in Sofia, we could really use some high powered water and a good brushing of the streets, that would really make Sofia shine. I walk for another block, then I realize that the street cleaner is following me. Gosh. I thought to myself, it is mocking me. And right before I found a spot for both coffee and breakfast, super, I realized that there is a street cleaner behind me and one on the cross street. Two street cleaners within blocks of each other!! Holy smokes.
So while I was having coffee, I started wondering, do we have street cleaning machines in Sofia and if not way is that–um I cannot make the question mark work on this computer key board. I can honestly say that I have never seen one but I guess that if you are struggling to have the garbage picked up maybe these trucks are not a high priority. But they do such a good job and this city while not brand new or perfectly taken care of looks damn good because of it. Maybe we can buy some or some-more street cleaners and really get Sofia shinning.
Anyhow, Prague is amazing. You should definitely check it out.
