Well, it’s only Wednesday but I am tired. As one of my students said today: Wednesday is the new Monday. I know, I know. Wednesday is the middle of the week and I should be glad that the week is half over.
I am. Don’t get me wrong. I am also just much more tired than I normally am by Wednesday.
A lot of different factors seem to have collided this week and the result is that I’d be more than happy to curl up in bed with a good book than grade the stack of papers I can’t seem to make a dent in and have become impossible to ignore.
This past weekend was a lovely lazy weekend. That might have been my first mistake but oh well, what’s past is past. Then this week there were a few extra-long meetings at school. Turns out, a meeting cuts into grading, planning and prepping time. Funny how that works.
Then last night I went to the first meeting of our international teachers book club. It was great fun but of course, I was eating really tasty food, talking about a book and sipping on wine rather than making a dent in my to-do list.
But heck, a girl can’t be too crazy about her to-do list and book club was great fun. We read and discussed the novel The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman. It’s a collection of short stories that are interwoven and tied together through a newspaper in Rome. I liked the book. It’s fine. It’s not really a book that I’d recommend though.
Today, I was busy, busy at work–teaching three classes, planning up coming units, making photocopies and meeting with students. I walked home, whipped up some dinner and now here I am. Writing a kind of lame blog post. Because, really, this happens sometimes. It’s not like a girl can be funny and witty all of the time.
